Education

Victor Guobadia obtained his Bachelors Degree in Law (LL.B) with Honours from the University of Benin in 1984. He won the Faculty Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Business Law and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1985. He obtained an LL.M from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London in 1986, specializing in Business Taxation, International Business Transactions, Shipping Law and Company Law.

Profile

He worked as a Stagiare/Foreign Associate in the Brussels office of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in 1987, where his responsibilities included work on the legal framework for a transnational railroad project in South-East Africa.  He also participated in European Commission competition hearings and was partly responsible for communicating European Commission decisions and changes in policy to clients of the firm.

He has been actively involved in the practice of law in Nigeria since 1988, specializing in Company and Commercial Law, Banking and Finance and Shipping Law.  Apart from gaining considerable experience as a transaction lawyer, Victor has advised on several practical aspects of Maritime Law. He has also advised on the legal framework for investment by foreign companies in Nigeria.

Victor has attended various seminars and trade conferences organized in the United States, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.  He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
